Joe Carnahan's Blood, Guts, Bullets and Octane (1998) was expiring on NWI so I gave it a spin. Not great but watchable about used car salesmen and a hot car wanted by the mob. Or something. 6/10

Tarzan is Not Alone

After hearing GGTMC cover Gaspar Noé's I Stand Alone (1998) I knew it was something I had to see soon. It's everything they've said and definitely a must-see, esp. if you like what Noé's been doing in cinema. And it's just as fucked up. It's the tale of an aging ex-con butcher trying to restart his life only to find it's not worth the effort and opts for one final intimate visit with his mentally challenged daughter. Or does he? Now I know where that fetus-punching scene comes from in FF's 100 Greatest Kills. 7.4/10

Tarzan and the She-Devil (1953) is a blast! Can only imagine how fun it was to go to the theater back in the day and watch serial adventure films like this. Lex Barker's Tarzan goes head to head against villain Vargo (Raymond Burr). Of course there's Joyce Mackenzie as Tarzan's beautiful Jane and Monique van Vooren as Lyra the She-Devil. Yes, the women here are insanely attractive. I really should try to watch all the Warner Archive Tarzan flicks since my library has all of them. 7.1/10

Surviving the Deep

I'd be lying if I said I was a little excited that Deep Rising (1998) was selected for this week's Horror Movie Night. Been a while since I've seen Treat Williams chew up the scenery in this substantial B-movie. There's nothing about this film that I dislike. But oh how I desire a quality blu-ray of this! 7.5/10


Received George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead (2009) from Netflix eager to finally view Romero's latest (and see Steve Barton @UncleCreepy). While still not the return to form we all want from Romero it is better than Diary of the Dead and manages to continue that story in a unique way. There's a lot of undeserved hatred for this film but none from me. 6.5/10

Strange Savage Romance

April Re-Watch Film: Dr. Strangelove (1964). Shouldn't be surprised how well this film still holds up. Crazy good.

Ah yes, another Andy Sidaris flick L.E.T.H.A.L. Ladies: Return to Savage Beach (1998)... whew, that's a helluva title. I think I've seen this one before (either that or Day of the Warrior) b/c I remember Kevin Eastman having a small supporting role. Yes, that Kevin Eastman, creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and then husband to Julie Strain, who is also featured here). This would be the last film Andy Sidaris would write & direct (RIP). And he still brings the entire package including two enhanced vixens (Julie K. Smith & Shae Marks) as well as Paul Logan (MEGA PIRANHA). Of course Rodrigo Obregón is back. Not particularly a fan of this film as I am w/Sidaris' earlier work. But lives up to the Sidaris tradition of Bullets, Bombs & Babes (or Boobs).

From TCM, I watched Rafter Romance (1933) starring Ginger Rogers in a delightful rom-com. She's quite the dish in this rather unbelievable story of two roommates who never see each other and despise each other yet manage to fall in love. Yeah, it's that kind of story. Charming & fun.
